Housekeeper

TRAINING REQUIRED:

The Housekeeper will receive on-the-job training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HOUSEKEEPER:

Our housekeeping staff is critical to resident wellness and enjoyment at Wellsprings.

The duties and responsibilities of the Housekeeper include performing the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to ensure that the Facility is maintained in a clean, safe and comfortable manner. The persons holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE HOUSEKEEPER:

Understand work schedules and assignments.

Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily schedules.

Clean assigned area, proceeding in an orderly fashion and doing a complete job.

Routinely check cleaning list for possible changes in assignment.

During cleaning process, monitor location of chemicals to ensure they re in a safe location in close proximity or in lock box.

Keep work areas free from hazardous conditions, spills, excess carts, baskets, supplies, equipment, etc.

Discard waste and trash into proper containers and re-line receptacles with plastic liners.

Maintain privacy of residents and confidentiality of resident information.

Maintain dignity and respect for residents’ personal and property rights.

Attend and participate  in in-service education classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or as directed.

Comply with established infection control and universal precaution practices and coordinate routine/terminal isolation procedures with nursing services, as well as follow fire safety policies and procedures.

Immediately report to supervisor all incidents, accidents, hazardous conditions or equipment.

Report immediately to supervisor defective, burned out or broken resident call lights, light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, etc.

Perform assigned tasks in accordance with facility policies and procedures, and as instructed by supervisor.

Notify supervisor of pending absence or tardiness within the time frame described in the

      Personnel handbook.

Possess a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm in order to create an atmosphere
conducive to rehabilitation and growth.

Properly set up appropriate caution and safety signs before performing housekeeping tasks.

Ensure that work assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored during work periods, as well as before leaving the area for breaks, meals, and end of work day.

Stock carts with proper types and quantities of materials and equipment.

Polish metal fixtures. including pay phone and water fountain,

Clean and sanitize public restrooms.

Pick up trash in front and back parking lots.

Turn in and/or report to supervisor all lost and found items.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE HOUSEKEEPER, Cont.:

Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies. etc., as directed or requested.

Report status of housekeeping supplies.

Clean housekeeping equipment, carts. etc.

Perform terminal cleaning procedures

Participate and assist in departmental studies and projects as directed.

Assist with completion of appropriate forms and reports.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

ABILITIES REQUIRED:

The following are skills needed to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the position of Housekeeper. The ability to:

Recognize and respond to the housekeeping needs of residents and the physical plant.

Effectively manage time to perform the essential functions of the job in a manner which benefits residents.

Perform general acuity housekeeping tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming & washing/ waxing, etc. including assisting in moving furniture as appropriate.

EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, MACHINES AND/OR TOOLS USED:

The following is a list of the principal equipment, materials, machines, tools, etc., used by the Housekeeper. This list may not be all inclusive:

Buckets

Carts

Chemicals

Furniture polish

Mops

Vacuum cleaner

Miscellaneous devices used in a nursing home environment (wheel chairs, oxygen tanks. etc.)

Miscellaneous housekeeping supplies

Buffer

PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED:

Performance of the essential job functions of the Housekeeper routinely requires a minimal to moderate amount of strength and agility to successfully complete work assignments.

POUNDS TO LIFT:

The minimum number of pounds determined to be appropriate for the Housekeeper to lift, with or without reasonable accommodation, is thirty.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Except where appropriate and conducive to accomplishing the goals and objectives of a particular task, the Housekeeper will work in a well-lighted area that is ventilated and as physically, physiologically and psychologically innocuous as possible under the conditions which exist at a particular time. Because the essential functions of the job of Housekeeper may require exposure to hazardous chemicals, safety risks such as strong odors, dust and lint, and machine vibrations, etc., as well as infectious waste, diseases, odors and other situations associated with health care, including but not limited to exposure to AIDS, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses involving Risk Classification Categories 1, 2, and 3 environmental conditions will fluctuate. To be qualified for the position of Housekeeper, an applicant/employee will have the ability to work in an environment conducive to caring  for residents, keeping the environment safe and clean with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to self or others.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The Housekeeper will report o work ready for routine duties and emergencies, and may include working non-standard hours.

SUPERVISOR:

The Housekeeper reports to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
